I just read a really interesting article on Gizmodo that says a Mexican physicist has figured out a way to avoid the spherical aberration problem with optical designs, which is what causes the corners and edges of your photos to be less sharp than the center of the image. If true, this could lead to cheaper, smaller, and sharper lenses in the near future. Not being a physicist, mathematician, or engineer myself, I can't tell if this is something that will ever come to fruition, but if it does, the results could be very interesting. We live in exciting times!
