Driving back to hotel, had just a few minutes to jump out and snap shot as moon was setting over horizon at Sheridan Lake, near Hills City. I used a Nikon Z7 with 14-30 f4 S lens. 14mm, 20" at ISO 800.

Hey Mike. Great shot! I was thinking of ways you could improve this. Not because I think it needs improving but I'm always thinking of ways I can improve my own shots and isn't this what this whole forum is about? I'm trying to think of what Ian would say and going off of what I have learned from his critiques, what came to mind was, cropping out the dead space on the bottom and that will bring the horizon out of the center of the frime while bringing those beautiful reflected stars on the water closer to grab the viewer's eyes and lead them into the photo. Maybe crop in a little on the left too? Idk
It's quite possible I have no idea what I am talking about but maybe it will start a discussion.
Hope you don't mind that I did this to show what it would look like.
I like that, in fact, it could probably stand a little more off the left side. Thanks for your thoughts!
Yeah I thought so too but when i tried it i couldn't get it to look right. I couldn't find the right spot to crop it.
What I also notice is with the bottom cropped off it gives the illusion of the star reflections continuing beyond the bottom of the frame.
I do like the cropped pano version better. Congratulations on the reflection; I've tried several times and never succeeded in getting a reflection like yours.
Really dark skies help!
