I am joining Shuttermonkeys for the first time and submitting this image of the columns and column shadows of the Jefferson Memorial taken in Washington DC at the Tidal Basin. This photo was taken with a Nikon D800 and the Nikon 24-70mm lens (ISO 100; 1/20 second; f/22) on 06 April 2014. The Jefferson Memorial offers so many possibilities for photos but I liked photographing the columns of the memorial with the shadows created by the sun shining on the columns. The original photo was taken in color but thought the blue sky between the columns distracted from the texture of the stone columns and shadows.
I set my camera low on the tripod in order to capture the first column shadow drawing our eye to the column with successive shadows drawing the viewers eye into the middle and back part of the photo. I can't recall if moving to the left a little bit would have allowed me to get some separation between the first and second column. If I did, I may not have gotten the first shadow emanating from the left corner of the photo.

I am also in the DC area and love going downtown for sunrise pics, and this is the type of "Shadow" I was thinking about... Nice job!!
Thank you Buddy. I'm local as well (La Plata, MD) and enjoy going down photographing the monuments. Hope we get to enjoy the cherry blossoms this year without them being off limits from COVID.
I agree, I am in the Fort Washington area near National Harbor, DC is an awesome place to shoot. you should check out the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens - the lotus flowers and water lilies are awesome when in bloom
