I went out to a State Park, at sunrise this morning, a few guys heading out to fish, but overall it was eerily quiet. Still no pic of them feeding, but this osprey was keeping a close eye on everything I did.
I cropped the top down, - mostly because it was just the blue water and IMHO, it did not add anything, no focal point, nothing, so in order to bring more attention to the Osprey I did a non-typical crop, and would like everyone's opinion... does it work? or too strange? too long and narrow?

I would try cropping in just to the bird because, to me, the surroundings are not very interesting. Do you have any shots with its head turned slightly so its eye is more prominent? Their yellow eyes are especially striking.
Yes, this one has a better shot of the Osprey, I agree, the surrounding was a pier and water, and I was looking for other ways to crop, this is more traditional - closer up
The cropping is much better here, I think. I also like the position of the Osprey better because it shows up his bright yellow eye. Cropping in shows his size and power whereas in the first shot, he is overpowered by his surroundings and looks no bigger than a robin. He also looks ruffled and disheveled in the first shot whereas in the second he is sleek and majestic. When I post process a shot like this, I tend to add some brightness and saturation just to the eye so it stands out a little more and makes the bird look even fiercer. I use the Adjustment Brush in Photoshop so the effect is only on his eye, not the rest of the photo.
