Myakka River is one of Florida's oldest parks created by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934. Some historic buildings are still in use including 5 log cabins that may be rented to tourists. There is a 7-mile scenic drive that winds through oak-palm hammocks and along the Upper Myakka lakeshore. There are over 39 miles of hiking trails. The Nature Trail includes a Canopy Walkway where one can walk in the trees observing birds and wildlife.
