Frances, here is another photo where the light blurred around a silhouetted object. Canon 5D Mark II, 24 - 70 Mk II, 1/40 at 28 mm and f/18. Not as much "fringing" but not quite as sharp as I would have hoped for, either....

Once again, I think the shutter speed could have been faster since you have a moving subject. This is especially true if the camera was hand held rather than on a tripod.

I like the idea of the fallen leaf on the rock, but I think the shot is really about the fisherman and the light. So I would have chosen to use a longer lens to zoom into the fisherman framing him against the glowing fog. A More shallow DOF, say F8, would help to create a bit of blur in the background also allowing the main subject to stand out a bit more without distraction.
Thanks. I am definitely going to have to shoot more like that. Sometimes I think I get brain lock by wanting a predetermined shot rather than what is best presented.
