One of our favorite local spots - you'd never guess this was in the middle of winter (since we usually have snow and ice at this point).
I thought about removing my daughter, but it helps show the scale... though maybe I should change the color of her clothes? Thoughts?

Hi Katrina. I hear ya on the mild winter, I'm in VA and same deal here, I'm not sure we've even had any reasonable amount of snow this year. I like the shot, waterfalls are always great. And I think I get what you're going for with your daughter in there, it definitely adds scale and a visual counterpoint. I can't really point it out, I just kind of feel like maybe it could be done a little different? I guess it depends a lot on what kind of 'feel' you're going for. A change of clothes/pose etc. might be pretty cool. Or even have her in different spots, and mess around with the scale and perspective. Sounds like it's a local spot for you so maybe check it out again and try a bunch of stuff. That's my two cents, but nice shot! I hope ya'll get snow, cuz I'd love to see the scene in all white.
Good idea about placing her in different parts of the frame to see how it would look. This was just one of those "Oh! Stand there a sec" things because she was already there, so I hadn't put any thought into her placement. I agree a different outfit would look nicer - perhaps something long and flow-y, like the water, and in some color other than the light blue. As for a more wintry scene, looks like I'll have to wait until next year.
Hi Katrina - echo the lack of winter comment. Hardly a frost here in Scotland, although some snow now up in the Highlands.
I like the composition - it looks a bit fairy/fantasy like with the falls and your daughter. Quick fix for me would be to crop out some of the dead space on the right, to emphasise the top right to bottom left flow, and give it some punch in post-processing with some contrast, colour vibrance and a slight vignette, probably centred on your daughter. And like Jeremey says, sounds like this is a spot to return to over the seasons. Thanks for posting it up, it's an imaginary delight.

I didn't realize you were in Scotland. My mum is from there (though she's lived in the States for the past 50 years). I'll play with the crop - I hadn't thought about that right side not having much going on there. My default method for cropping is to keep the original image ratio - not sure why I don't play around with that more! The color/vibrance is a great suggestion.
@Katrina Steele I too always try to keep the original, and i think that would work here. Where's your Scottish mum from? I fess up, I'm an english imposter that simply loves the place but has only been here two years. Isle of Skye as a 17 year old was the start of it all.
@Andy Cakebread I know they were in Dumfries and also Glasgow - not sure what order or what the timeline was. I also know the Isle of Skye was a favorite vacation spot!
Your daughter must be freezing in shorts in the winter. She is a good sport to be willing to pose for you like it was summer! LOL
It was unseasonably warm that day (and my kids, given the choice, will always opt for shorts or skirts instead of pants - not sure where they get that from, as I'm always cold!)
@Katrina Steele I'm always cold too which is why we now winter in Florida. LOL
