This scene in Reine, Lofoten is often photographed. I spent four evenings waiting for the overcast clouds to break and show some more color. I waited until late in the blue hour for the colors to peak. Then I first took an 8-image pan exposing for the highlights in the sky. This first pan left the considerably darker ground in deep shadow. So I took a second 8-image pan exposing for the ground. In processing, I blended the two pans and adjusted the color balance for the ground pan to more closely resemble the sky pan. I also dodged and burned to reduce contrast in the still contrasty blend.
