Been up on Lake Superior for the past few days working with a film crew, producing our next exciting Shuttermonkeys video adventure! I took this photo from inside a sandstone alcove along the coast during a stunning sunrise. There was a small cobble beach at the base of the alcove, and the entire scene was flooded with red light as the sky lit up at sunrise. I focus stacked this image to ensure deep focus from near to far in the scene. Canon 5DSR, Canon 11-24mm f/4 lens, ISO 100, f/11, 5 seconds.

Wow! This is absolutely stunning, Ian!
Truely amazing Ian. The pebbles look like red beans. The color is out of this world
What a gorgeous photo! How did you decide to place the primary element in the middle vs to one side?
Beautiful image Ian, I really like how the perspective make the "alcove" look big enough to harbor a pirate ship!
Superb shot Ian
A large mural of this image would look great hanging in the gallery of the new coffee shop in Munising! Looking forward to seeing it in person.
So am I!!!!
Hi Ian, what an amazing Image!
How many different shots did you take for the final focus stacked Image?
Hi Olaf, thanks! I did an exposure blend as well as focus stacking, so it was a 3-bracket exposure for each focus point, and I did 5-7 focus points, so somewhere between 15-21 total images!
Awesome shot! How do you manage that many shots time wise while the light changes?
@Jeremey Voit I just shoot as fast as I can! I have auto bracketing set up, so the sequence for each focus point is pretty quick. Once I get done with one set, I start again and keep working as the light changes so I'm sure to capture the peak color.
Such a unique and compelling image! I especially like the smooth, wet pebbles that are prominent in the foreground and (surprisingly) the branches that overhang the alcove. Wow!
