Hi all, I love to shoot the night sky. I usually use a Sigma 14 F/1.8 art lens, i do love that wide expanse of sky. But, sometimes it would be nice to have a little more reach for when I can't get up close and personal to a good foreground element. I was thinking of looking for a lens around 35-40mm to do vertical panos with. One that was nice and fast, F/2.8 or wider. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks Kate

Hi Kate, what kind of camera are you using?
Hey Ian, I have a 5Div.. living here in swampy coastal NC sometimes I just can’t get close to what I want to use as my foreground subject. So, I thought if I had a lens with a little more reach I could do vertical panos. That way I could get closer to my intended subject but still have that big sky view... hope that helps...btw thanks!
I've had experience with the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8, which is a good lens, but I've never used it for star photography. Tamron's 35mm f/1.8 is also a good lens, pretty sharp even wide open, I've used that too, but once again, never for star photography. Sorry I can't offer more insight, I don't do much star photography, and when I do, I'm always going super wide!
P.S. Mind if I move this to the night photography forum? I think it will get more exposure there.
Thanks for the input Ian, I'll look into the Tamron.. I am kinda spoiled with the fast 1.8 of the 14mm lens so the 1.8 sounds interesting. Yes please move the post... I wasn't sure which category was the best for questions.. thx again kate
