This old boy keeps a watchful eye on me as his harem is nearby as well.
Although its not the sharpest shot I've ever taken, I'm still pretty happy with this image!
I personally love the colours of the foliage mixing with the snow as a surrounding palette!
Taken in the Rocky Mountains in West Central Alberta, Canada.
Gear used; D500 / Tamron 150-600 mm @ 1/500 sec, f/8, 380 mm, ISO 180.
I should have bumped the shutter up to 1000 as I was being buffeted by a strong cross wind and anyone who uses a lens like this will concur ..... they are sometimes a handful when hand held!
Ok.....enough of my excuses! Lol

Nice, Craig! I like the snow in there too. He looks like he's definitely got his eye on you. Good catch there.
I have the G1 version of that lens... I don't know if it's true or not but I've heard the VR/IS on long lenses like that actually can cause a blur effect anyway, so personally I've actually been shooting with the IS turned off lately, as long as I can keep a shutter speed that matches the focal length or faster. I dunno if it will help or not but I figured I'd share that with you since we have a similar lens.
Thanks for the input, Jeremey!!😀
Mine is the G1 as well and yes the IS can cause issues. I typically leave it on for hand held and monopod shots and off for tripod shots.......most of the time!
I have also had random episodes of the G1 lens "focus hunting" where it will not lock onto a subject, so my plan is to change lenses in the near future to either the G2 version or the Nikon 200-500 mm.
The two lenses are similar in price but the Nikon lens seems to have much faster autofocus performance with my D500.
Happy shooting!
Craig.
